DESIGNER - Soft Goods (PORTLAND, OR)
You are a self-starter, team player and hands-on with experience in designing and prototyping soft good products and assemblies. You love solving problems and enjoy the creative process of building a physical sample to prove out an idea. From concept to production, you know the commercialization process and how to guide a project from napkin sketch to a production ready confirmation sample. You sweat the details because you want to deliver solutions that exceed our client’s expectations.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Design and fabricate in Terrazign’s 6,000 square foot soft goods studio and machine shop
Collaborate with a Lead Designer and/or Design Director to build design plans, create concepts and set deliverables for client projects
Work on 1-2 design projects concurrently
Pattern soft good components, design 3D tooling and fixtures, construct functional prototypes and test samples
Build presentation decks and communication tools that clearly describe decision making and design solutions
Collaborate with project design, engineering, and manufacturing team members to be solution oriented to resolve project design and manufacturing issues
Work with the client’s design, engineering, and manufacturing team members to be solution oriented to resolve project design and manufacturing issues
Continually grow your knowledge of textile/material properties, soft good manufacturing processes and product industry standards
Deliver the highest quality output with attention to all construction and material details.
Communicate daily with internal design team on project developments and critical details
WHAT YOU’ll BRING
Background in industrial design, product design, engineering or related field
3+ years of experience working on a creative team
Creative problem solving focused on isolating the design problem and building a set of physical prototypes to evaluate potential solutions
Knowledge of soft good materials and assembly techniques
Ability to create 2D patterns for 3D objects
Experience creating 2D patterns for soft good assemblies in CAD software ( rhino, Fusion 360, etc )
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a design related course of study
ProDUCT DESIGN ENGINEER - Soft Goods (PORTLAND, OR)
You are a self-starter, team player and CAD expert. You can build 3D CAD assemblies, parts and tools that will be used to build, mold, and integrate with actual physical assemblies and prototypes. You are the bridge between the virtual realization of an idea and the physical reality of a functional assembly. As a Design Engineer at Terrazign you will support the team utilizing your experience in 3D design, 2D patterning, tooling/mechanism DFM, hands on prototyping to fabricate, test and validate designs. You will work collaboratively with designers to help prototype concepts, build fixtures and tooling, evaluate construction techniques and support fabrication/machining of assemblies, parts, and tooling in Terrazign’s machine shop.
You know how real things work and enjoy understanding as much as possible about the physical nature of how assemblies interact. You also enjoy the creative process and the possibly of building something novel, you are generative and open minded, you believe in physics and also understand that sometimes the boundaries of what we believe is possible need to be pushed, no idea is bad it just needs to be looked at differently. You have product creation experience and knowledge of commercialization process. You engage in conversations with teammates about how best to build out ideas and make ideas into physical realities. You sweat the details because you want to help deliver solutions that exceed our client’s expectations. You have a side hustle, or hobby that will surprise us.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Design and fabricate in Terrazign’s 6,000 square foot soft goods studio and machine shop
Build 3D parts and assemblies based on conversations with and sketches generated by teammates
Design 3D CAD for tools and dies used in the construction and forming of soft goods
Lead in-house tool and fixture machining
Advance 3D CAD expertise in the studio
Work collaboratively with design teams to layout build plans and design concepts
Lead projects where applicable, interacting in client discussions and presentations
Deliver the highest quality output with attention to all construction and material details
Educate studio designers on shop processes and machine use
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
Background in mechanical/industrial engineering, industrial design, or product design
5+ years of experience working on a creative team
Creative problem solving focused on isolating the design problem and building a set of tests/prototypes to evaluate potential solutions
Advanced knowledge and comfort in 3D CAD/CAM, Fusion 360, Solidworks
Design for manufacturing experience
CNC Machining experience on a 4-axis milling machine
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a design related course of study
