What sets you apart is your passion for the technical details, the desire to create a look that is novel coupled with your hands-on experience in prototyping wearable garments out of a wide variety of technical fabrics. You can sew and are equally interested in a bonded seam construction. You can pattern to any body type. You love the power a physical sample holds to move an idea forward. You take the initiative and are team oriented. You have a keen understanding of materials and the impact they will have on how you will pattern. You want to bring concepts to life in way that can be efficiently produced. You love a challenge. You sweat the details because you want to deliver solutions that exceed our client’s expectations.

Construct tech pack assets showing process and construction details
Continually grow your knowledge of textile/material properties and garment construction techniques
Deliver the highest quality output with attention to all construction and material details
Work in a fast paced environment where it is common for multiple full garment samples to be built within a week
WHAT YOU’LL BRING
Background in patterning and building garments as a professional tailor, fashion house sample maker, or in technical sportswear garment construction, or equivalent experience
Experience building production ready garments from a concept drawings/creative direction
Ability to build 2D patterns from scratch for a variety of apparel types – experience creating patterns in CAD software (rhino, Fusion, CLO etc) is a plus
Comfort designing and building garments from technical stretch fabrics, fabric laminates, foam package materials, 3D meshes, shell fabrics and heavy weight materials
Attention to detail that results in a high-level output quality and consistent fit and finish of samples
Industrial sewing machine experience + comfort in a wide range of machines
Creative problem solving focused on isolating the design problem and building a set of physical prototypes to evaluate potential solutions
TECHNICAL PRODUCT DESIGNER - SOFT GOODS (PORTLAND, OR)
You understand that a layer in a 3D CAD assembly that is labeled “fabric” doesn’t mean much. Designing with fabric requires both knowledge of material properties and comfort prototyping integration options. You have experience designing, patterning and prototyping soft good products and assemblies. You are comfortable designing and developing wrist-based wearables, on head technology platforms, on body support/carry systems and the tooling and fixtures that are required to bring these products to life. Human vs. robot, range of motion, size variation and washability are challenges you have grappled with before. You love solving problems and enjoy the creative process of building a physical sample to prove out an idea. From concept to production, you know the commercialization process and how to guide a project from napkin sketch to a production ready confirmation sample. You sweat the details because you want to deliver solutions that exceed our client’s expectations.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Work on innovation design projects in consumer electronics, sportswear, wearables, medical tech, VR/AR, and aerospace
Design and fabricate in Terrazign’s 6,000 square foot soft goods studio and machine shop
Collaborate with project design leads to build design plans, create concepts and set deliverables for client projects
Pattern soft good components, design 3D tooling and fixtures, construction functional prototypes and test samples
Build presentation assets and communication tools that clearly describe decision making and design solutions
Work with the client’s design, engineering, and manufacturing team members to be solution oriented to resolve project design and manufacturing issues
Continually grow your knowledge of textile/material properties, soft good manufacturing processes and product industry standards
Deliver the highest quality output with attention to all construction and material details

Ability to approach product design problem solving through the design thinking iterative process, scientific method, or engineering principles
Comfort building physical soft good assembly prototypes to a “production ready” or “golden sample” level
Knowledge of soft good materials and assembly techniques
Ability to create 2D patterns for 3D objects
CAD skills (rhino, Fusion 360, or equivalent)
